Senior Mechanical Engineer

EngineeringFull-Time Contract (1-year)Greater Toronto Area (On-Site)

About the Role

We’re looking for a hands-on mechanical engineer to own the physical design and reliability of our robot platform. You’ll work directly with the engineering lead and embedded systems team to iterate on chassis design, the robotic arm assembly, connector tooling, and field serviceability. This is a builder role — you’ll be in CAD in the morning and assembling hardware in the afternoon.

Reports to: Chief Technology OfficerSalary: $80,000 – $95,000

What You’ll Work On

  • Design and iterate on the robot chassis, drivetrain mounting, and protective enclosures for outdoor use cases.
  • Own mechanical design of the robotic arm and end-effector tooling for CCS and NACS charge port insertion.
  • Develop cable management, connector seating fixtures, and docking alignment hardware.
  • Run tolerance analysis and design for manufacturability (DFM) on fabricated and COTS components.
  • Build and maintain BOMs, fabrication drawings, and assembly documentation.
  • Collaborate with the software and embedded team to co-design sensor mounts (LIDAR, stereo camera, force-torque sensor) with clean cabling and thermal management.
  • Prototype quickly using 3D printing, laser cutting, and local machine shops — then transition to production-grade parts.
  • Support field deployments and iterate based on real-world wear, failure modes, and dealer feedback.

What We’re Looking For

  • 5–7 years of mechanical engineering experience in robotics, automation, or electromechanical products.
  • Design for Manufacturing experience.
  • Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks) with a portfolio of real hardware you’ve shipped.
  • Experience designing for motors, actuators, gearboxes, or cable-driven mechanisms.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving startup — scope changes weekly, and that’s expected.
  • Based in the GTA and able to be on-site regularly.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with robotic arm design or end-effector tooling.
  • Familiarity with robotics middleware (e.g. ROS2) or working alongside software teams in a robotics context.
  • Background in EV infrastructure, automotive, or outdoor/ruggedized product design.
  • Hands-on with motor controller hardware and CAN bus integration.
  • Experience with IP-rated enclosures and outdoor deployment considerations.
